- The Deadlift
- The Overhead Press
I've loved deadlifting for quite a while already. There's something about doing deads that just makes me go all hyper and excited. The overhead press is a new love, I have to confess. The press is intimidating at first. But I grew to adore it.
Unfortunately, as much as I love the dead and the overhead press, my numbers are far from impressive. Not worth showing off I'm afraid.
For deadlifts, my 8RM is about 49kg (I think I can do more, but I was advised to get my technique down pat before I start piling on the plates).
Overhead presses? Sigh... I'm just pressing the olympic bar - that's 20kg - for 12 reps (and the final 3 reps have to be spotted). So nope... not impressive. Not impressive at all. I've got a looooooonngggg way to go.
PS:
Tried running on Sunday. Was laboured but wasn't as bad as I expected. Could it be that someday I may even enjoy running? Only time will tell.
I've been trying to ramp up on my food intake. No holds barred. Everything is fair game. There is no such thing as junk food. Woohooo... now I know of a few people who would kill to be in my position. Haha.

Sometimes I get so disappointed with my numbers it feels like I've done nothing these past 3 years. I feel like a bloody newbie!!!

Zig Zag safer lol
And if you're concerned about them numbers, why don't you train with lower reps ie. 5-6 reps? Something's got to give.
Also, a few tips when it comes to running:
1.) Set goals - time vs. distance, or set a time in which you'd run without stopping; anything that helps you to improve!
2.) Run with a time tracking device; this is very important as it will..
3.) ..keep you disciplined. Yes, discipline in the sense that you would not bail out before an elapsed time. Running has ALOT to do with discipline and..
4.) ..willpower. Just set your goal, struggle past that point, and you might even surprise yourself by running another 1km. I kid you not. This means that you can always do better than you think you can currently. Go the distance or go home!
5.) Please.. do not run with an empty stomach. Unless you want them muscles burnt for fuel :P
Aizan: I hate running too, but am starting to like it a little more now. Still love lifting a million times more, but i must admit... i am starting to like it.... a wee bit. Maybe i just like challenging myself. The fact that i can't run as much as i would like to makes me pissed off which then becomes a goal for me to reach... i dunno. i am like that.
So maybe one day we can form a "i hate running" team and join a marathon. hahahahahaha
oh yes... Rajan, totally agree with u. Count me in the hate-running group. hahaha!!
Kev: No zig zagging for me. My mission is to eat everything in sight.
Adeline and Rajan: Yeah we can form the I Hate Running team and wouldn't it be fun if we came up tops in the marathon? Lol!
